A healing story.
Upon learning that this book takes place in a therapist's office as a dialogue between a survivor of domestic abuse and her therapist, I was both intrigued and afraid that the story would hit too close to home. Although, like the character, it has been over twenty years, I thought that it book might trigger flashbacks and nightmares. To the contrary, I found the story very healing and reaffirming. It did more to explain and heal my old pain than I could have imagined! My therapist is reading it now and we plan to discuss it together in her office. I am looking forward to reading more books by Sandy Keigh.

If you have been a victim of domestic violence, this book may take you a while to get through. Even though this is a novel, it is one of the most informative books I've ever read concerning domestic abuse. Extremely well written.

An illuminating novel about the complexities of sibling relationships.
Having just finished reading "The Archives of Her Mind", I want to echo the other reviewer's sentiment, "we need a sequel". The author creates a compelling character that takes us along on her journey of acceptance. Acceptance of herself and acceptance of her family (faults and all). The author has created a character in Sophie that is relatable and pulls you into her struggle. I wanted to jump into the story and take care of her family issues for her!
If you are looking for a well-written, thought provoking novel with engaging characters, then look no further than "The Archives of Her Mind". You won't be disappointed.

Loved this unique book!
I recently finished reading “The Archives of Her Mind” and just had to write a review. I don’t know how to characterize it...it wasn’t quite a novel, not really a psychology book, but something in-between that was very unique.
You are present in a therapist’s office as the patient slowly reveals her innermost experiences and feelings over time. I tried to analyze the main character Sophie as her therapist Nathan learned more about her. Then I spent just as much time examining my own behaviors and experiences in a new way, and looking at my dreams (and nightmares) with new insight. This is a thought-provoking story with a character I liked and could relate to, even though my personal experiences were not the same as hers. The author made therapy so accessible and almost enjoyable. (Now if she could only point me to a therapist as good as Nathan...) I was so sorry when the book ended and Sophie left Nathan’s office for the final time. We need a sequel to find out how the rest of her life turns out!

A compelling book and learning experience.
The Archives of Her Mind is a thought-provoking journey following Sophie and her therapist, Nathan. Each chapter takes place in Nathan's office as we watch their relationship grow, flourish and eventually triumph as Sophie feels more and more comfortable sharing the troubling incidents in her past.
The unique quality of this book is that not only are Sophie's issues shared and put into perspective, but the reader as well can benefit from the brilliance and kindness of Nathan. I guess the only way to sum it up is to say that it was a beneficial learning experience for Sophie as well as the reader. It would be hard to finish this book and not come away with some valuable life lessons. I wanted the book to keep going so I could find out how Sophie incorporated her therapy into her own life. It's a must-read for anyone who questions their own insecurities and life experiences and will stay with you long after you have finished the last page.

Charmingly insightful!
A fascinating story of emotional abuse, Keigh's rendering of a toxic relationship is a consummate case study of the power of healing therapy. The lively dialog between Sophie and Dr. Russell is interspersed with events that Sophie brings to life for the reader. It works. Witty, yet profound, The Archives of Her Mind is insightful and a must read for anyone questioning the dynamics of a long-standing relationship.

The Archives of Her Mind is complex and empowering. With the help of her therapist, Sophie Libusier begins to understand the reason for her nightmares and insecurities. Through Sophie's dialogue you learn about her life and the challenges she has faced. I felt like I was right there with them. I had total empathy for Sophie and can’t say I haven’t been in a few of the situations she encountered. Great book! Thank you for writing it.

Thought-provoking of memories once archived.
Archives of Her Mind could very well be "Archives of My Mind" with the many buried thoughts and memories of situations and events I have endured. I have no idea how this author was able to bring forth "archives in my mind" which is helping me heal reading your sessions with Nathan. This book took me to situations I had placed in my “box”, and listening to Nathan I’m beginning to understand – sort-of, maybe: but at least a start.
I applauded this author for her straight forwardness.

Well-written and insightful. An Odysseus into the mind of a victim of abuse.
I was instantly pulled into this book the moment I started reading it by the intimate setting. Loved being a 'fly on the wall' in the therapist's office, while Dr. Nathan expertly guided Sophie through her dreams and memories to unlock the secrets filed away in her mind. Sophie came alive for me as an authentic, vulnerable person in pain. I think any women who reads this book will see at least a glimpse of herself at some point in her life. Poignant, masterful and thought-provoking. My kind of read!

Finding your voice.
What happens within the family dynamics can be as destructive emotionally as physical abuse is always. “The Archives of Her Mind” took us on Sophie’s journey to peel back the layers of her psyche and expose the root of her insecurities and vulnerabilities. Each family member has a role in shaping personality, strength of character, and self-esteem. Those that faced Sophie seemed evident for all to see.
I commend Sophie for persevering through her journey to find the underlying cause of her issues. Kirschenbaum succeeded in creating a very likeable, relatable character in Sophie; and a quite effective therapist in Nathan. Simultaneously I felt that I could help Sophie; and at times, found myself wanting to sit in her chair for therapy with Nathan. That’s quite a feat for an author to achieve. Sequel please?

Sophia's journey through therapy with Dr. Russell had me completely involved. I always looked forward to her next therapy session, even though it was shocking to read about the traumas she endured and suppressed. It's so encouraging to follow her progress and personal growth through the sessions. You'll love this book.
