Celia's View, the impressive sequel to Celia's Shadow, is every bit as engaging as Keigh's first book. It's a story of surviving office politics when the team attempts to right the ship captained by a boss from hell whose preferred management style is humiliation. Strong characterizations are supported by fast-paced dialog resulting in an engrossing page-turner. Recommended for those who have to work with others -- which is most everyone!
After reading Ms. Keigh’s first book, Celia’s Shadow, I was excited to see what her sophomore novel had in store. I finished this book in one day; I couldn’t put it down. The dialogue was well written, and the story kept me interested from one delicious pastry to the next. While primarily centered around Celia’s workplace where she and her friend, Addie, endured deceit and emotional abuse from coworker and management alike; the humorous stories surrounding her personal life provided levity. It’s sad to think that behavior like this still exists in today’s work environment.
Celia’s View delves into the politics of the work environment regarding the mistreatment of employees and the emotional abuse that is allowed to take place. The four main characters are part of the dance between those who are abused and those who abuse, played out in vignette after vignette. We can all identify with one of these characters; we’ve been on the receiving end of humiliation at work; or at the very least, observed it. I was Celia and Addie’s personal cheerleader throughout, believing that victims rarely come out on top. The stories are almost too crazy to be true. And yet, I’m thinking that no one could make this stuff up! I also found levity in certain chapters and burst out laughing at some of the shenanigans. And throughout, I was hungry for cookies and sweets. I wonder why. Kudos to Keigh!
I love stepping into Celia’s world! It’s always peopled with interesting characters and her problems are very relatable. I especially love the little vignettes about Celia’s family and friends’ families that are dispersed throughout the book. They balanced out the angst I felt reading about Celia’s work experiences. This was a fast read, especially because I couldn’t put it down! I highly recommend it.
In this day and age, burnout is more and more common, often from toxic work cultures. Celia's view is an empowering story of a woman in the workplace who faces the intense, interpersonal challenges that so many people experience yet are rarely written about. I couldn't put it down.
Celia is my hero!
Just finished the book and enjoyed it immensely. Celia is an amazing character with unique perspectives on the challenges thrown her way. Highly recommend!
I could not put this book down, especially at the end. Every woman who has ever experienced issues with nasty people in the workplace can relate to Celia and Addie. Loved the satisfying ending. I'm just sorry that the story is over. Great characters and I will miss spending time with them.
Any person who works in an office environment knows someone who is a Monster Manager! Celia and her friend Addie have many altercations, uncomfortable moments and very funny ways of making their point clear without words. Her friend Kate is back for more amusing episodes with Celia and the stories are hilarious! Once again, I was shocked at the ending but was pleasantly surprised!
I was so excited to see where Celia’s next journey would take her. Celia’s View did not disappoint. Navigating a work life balance in today’s world can be quite a challenge. Celia’s View helps us realize we are not alone and puts a humorous spin on today’s trials and triumphs!!!
Celia’s View focuses mostly on Celia’s work environment. Her team encompasses a friend, a psychotic manager, and a manipulative co-worker. Celia’s View kept me engaged and questioning, how far will the mistreatment of Joan go and what else could happen next to Addie and Celia? Love the fact Violet was no match for her. Enjoyed the snip-its of her outside life with William, Dylan, Kate and Doris. Celia’s View will have you shocked, angry, and laughing. You’ll definitely be able relate to at least one thing that happens to Celia. The story kept me turning the pages until the end. I was speechless but smiling!
